Mama and Me Capsule Wardobe Challenge: Day 1

Since having my son Jack in January, I have been in the process of clearing out my closet.  Going through a major life change whether it be having a baby, starting a new job, or getting married is a great time to reevaluate your wardrobe.  For me, having a baby not only changed my body, but my style as well. Like many women, after having a baby my lifestyle has changed dramatically.  Pre baby I was working in an upscale office environment where dresses and high heels were my daily attire.  Now as a stay at home mom, I need clothes that are functional, well made, and above all comfortable!  If I could describe my style it would be classic with an edge.  I have always leaned toward minimalist style, which is why the idea of a capsule wardrobe was exactly what I needed!

What is a Capsule Wardobe?

A capsule wardrobe is a collection of essential pieces that can be worn multiple ways and never go out of style.  There is no set number of pieces you can have, but a good rule of thumb is to keep it between 20 and 30.  The whole idea of a capsule wardrobe is to get rid of all of the clutter in your closet, and make finding what to wear easier. You want to strip down to items you love (not just like), items that fit you right now, (not after you loose those last 10 lbs.), and pieces that are timeless and versatile.  It's all about simplifying your life and saving you time and money!

There is definitely a capsule wardrobe movement happening right now, but I thought it would be fun to get my son in on the action, so I created one for him as well!

Day 1

For Day 1 of the challenge, I wanted to wear something casual that I could wear running errands with Jack.  I always love layering and mixing prints, so my sleeveless ASOS striped dress with a Aeropostal denim jacket and Old Navy buffalo plaid tied at my waist was a no brainer.  Throw in my tan booties from 6pm.com that go with everything, and I'm ready to go!

When dressing Jack, I always look for well made pieces that are comfortable but not "babyish."  I think about what my husband looks good in, and inevitably, that's what works for Jack.  I found this amazing vintage glow in the dark Boo tee at a consignment sale, and paired it with his grey Baby Gap skinny jeans.  If there was anything I swore I would do as a mother, it was never to put my boy in stretchy waist, stone washed, cargo baby jeans!
